Root canal treatment in Matamoros, Mexico
A root canal is done when the inside of the tooth (the pulp) is inflamed or infected. The inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed in an effort to save it instead of extracting it.

Signs worth checking
- Severe or lingering pain, especially with cold or heat that lasts after the stimulus.
- Pain when biting.
- Swelling or a pimple-like bump on the gum.
- A tooth that darkened after an injury, or a very deep cavity.
These signs can have other causes. Only an evaluation can tell.
Treatment options
Root canal treatment
Cleaning, disinfecting and sealing the inside of the tooth.
Retreatment
When a previous root canal is having problems.
Final restoration
Rebuilding the tooth and, often, a crown to protect it.
How the process works
It may be done in one or more visits, depending on the case.
- 1
Diagnosis
Clinical tests and an X-ray to confirm where the problem comes from.
- 2
Local anesthesia
So you're comfortable during treatment.
- 3
Canal cleaning
Inflamed or infected tissue is removed and the canals are disinfected.
- 4
Sealing
The canals are filled and sealed.
- 5
Restoration
The tooth is rebuilt; a crown is often recommended.
Possible benefits
- Keeping your natural tooth.
- Relieving pain that comes from the pulp.
- Avoiding an extraction and its effects on neighboring teeth.
Limitations and considerations
- Not every tooth can be saved; fractures or lack of support may prevent it.
- The tooth becomes more fragile and often needs a crown.
- Some cases may need retreatment or a surgical procedure.

Root canal FAQs
Does a root canal hurt?
It's done under local anesthesia. There may be some soreness for a few days afterwards.
Why do I need a crown afterwards?
A tooth with a root canal is usually weaker. A crown protects it from breaking.
Can I wait to get treated?
It's not recommended. An infection can spread. If you have swelling that's getting worse, a fever, or trouble swallowing or breathing, go to an emergency room right away.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the tooth and the final restoration. We explain the cost after your evaluation.
